Lanvin for the Masses!

It's no secret by now that H&M is collaborating with creative director Alber Elbaz and menswear designer Lucas Ossenjriver of prestigous fashion house Lanvin so I decided to do some research on the history of it all. The pictures below are from Lanvin's fall 2010 ready-to-wear collection.

The company was founded by ex-milliner Jeanne Lanvin. The clothing she made for her children was noticed by a number of wealthy people who commissioned her to create clothes for their children and soon for them as well. By 1909 she had her own boutique and was granted the opportunity to become the first couturier by the Syndicat de la Couture.

Jeanne Lanvin was known for her eye for details. She had a knack for embroidery and beading, and was fond of light floral colours. Lanvin passed away in 1946 and in 2001 Alber Elbaz was appointed as creative director for the company.

Alber Elbaz began his career working for big names such as: Geoffrey Beene, Guy Laroche, and Yves Saint Laurent. He was soon dismissed by Tom Ford and then went on to work for Krizia.

Elbaz's Fall 2010 collection was one of my favourites as it added two of my favourite style themes tribal, and gothic. He showcased architectural silhouettes and gorgeous body-concious dresses accessorized with chunky statement jewelry. This UNICEF ambassador must have gotten a lot of inspiration from his birthplace, Moracco.

Die hard Lanvin fans can expect the collection to go on sale November 23 whilst a video of the collection will be available for viewing on November 2. H&M has gotten pretty crazy responses from fans of designer collections in the past and Lanvin is in good company. H&M has collaborated with designers such as: Karl Lagerfeld, Roberto Cavalli, Stella McCartney and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcon. Fashionistas have been known to line up for days to get their hands on these designer duds and have also been known to fight tooth and french-tipped nail for them. That being said, I know on November 23 I'll be entering a battlefield and I just want to say for anyone whose thinking of snatching an Alber Elbaz piece out of my hands...bring it on! I've crafted an amazingly intense, but effective, H&M-designer-collabo workout since the first collaboration with Lagerfeld. Hope to see you there!

Holt + Marc = Vision Spring

Mark your calendars Marc Jacobs fans! The designer has created a Marc by Marc Jacobs totebag exclusively for Holt Renfrew which will be sold at $48 on from Sept. 30-Oct. 10. The greatest news of all is that a portion of the proceeds will go to Vision Spring, an organization that provides glasses at a low cost in developing countries. The tote is already available for pre-order but I'm filled with the excitement of getting up early to get in line. I might get one in every colour, hope to see you there!

The Street Escape: A Day at Kensington Market

I spent a rainy day in Kensington and walked into Bungalow where I saw the most amazing blouse. Paired with those skinny jeans, I just had to take a pic.

Lady Gaga in McQueen at the VMA's

Lady Gaga looked absolutely beautiful in an Alexander McQueen gown at the MTV Video Music Awards last night. It saddens me that this collection will be McQueen's very last as he is one of my favourite designers. Although I'm sure Sarah Burton will do a wonderful job as his successor, his talent is unmatched and will never be forgotten.

FAT Alternative Fashion Week

Hey loves,
So another quest on my fashion journey was volunteering at FAT Alternative Fashion Week. I had the time of my life and am looking forward to going next year. This event is one that should not be missed. The theme was 'Made With Love,' and each night featured a collection based on the emotions: longing, lust, rage and joy. Here are some pics I took during a night of joy!

Backstage madness!

Felicia Burke models waiting to be walk stars.

Dayna, the model I dressed wearing Baby Steinberg.

During the night there were amazing exhibitions/installations with 'The Dressing Room Project.'

Lady Gaga + Rihanna = Grace Jones

From the bold make-up, the sharp, daring and colourful silouhettes, and the amazing stunner shades, Grace Jones is definately my muse.

Rachel Roy at the Room

I haven't been here for a long time and I'm sorry. But on the upside, I've been a busy little bee! Here's what I've been up to!

1. Rachel Roy cocktail party at The Room. Ms. Roy was unveiling her Spring 2010 collections. I found my self drooling over:

This Rachel by Rachel Roy jacket and I saw this young lady who had this fabulous jacket on.

Rachel Roy officially has a new fan I even scream a little bit when I see her on The City. Her designs are unique yet functional and meeting her was a blast. She's an extremely gorgeous, humble and dignified woman.
