The Look: Rockabilly

Get your pompadour's real high and pick out your best pin-up tat, this is the rockabilly (rock +hillbilly) look. This look is an ode to the 1950's with a twist and in my opinion, no celeb does it better than Gwen Stefani.

Cry for help!

I absolutely love the sunglasses on Mary-Kate (black shades) but can't seem to find them anywhere seeing as they're from a billion seasons ago. I would like to order them but have no clue where to begin to find out what they're called or get an id number. Anyone out there know?

Christian Louboutin: The Man With the Red Hot Sole

The story of Louboutin’s craft begins at the Musee National des Arts d’Afrique et Oceanie where a picture of a stiletto heel stands with an X marked on it (the museums parquet floors are unable to handle a spiked heel). As a teenager Louboutin would make sketches of the shoe bewildered by it as platforms were most ubiquitous at the time. Soon he was given a book of design by Roger Vivier, the man said to have invented the stiletto, by a friend. While assessing the beauty of the designs Louboutin stumbled upon his ambition.

At the age of sixteen Louboutin became a shoe designer for the cabaret Folies Bergere then went on to work at fashion houses: Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Charles Jourdan and Roger Vivier. After completing his work with Roger Vivier, Louboutin decided to open up shop where he sold his shoes to one of his first customers, Princess Caroline who was in the boutique with a friend who happened to be a writer for W magazine. Soon after W published a critique of Louboutin’s shoes with Princess Caroline singing his praises gaining him more success and recognition.

The most recognizable thing about Christian Louboutin’s designs is the famous red sole added in his third season. Other attributions that have propelled him into the world of luxury are the exclusive and “made-to-measure” shoes he produces. These “Cinderella shoes” enable his customer to have a pair of pumps that she’ll rarely see anywhere else as she can purchase one of Louboutin’s limited edition designs or have a brand new design according to the customer’s preference of style and materials and measurements.

His shoes are one of my new obsessions, enjoy these visions of beauty.

Canada's Next Top Model

Cycle 1

Cycle 2

How ...diverse.

Apparently the third season will be airing this summer but I'm sure the winner will look exactly like the above. I had to put on my glasses just to be sure they weren't the same person.

Thelonious Monk

This man is one of the most influential/inventive/innovative thinkers in the world of jazz but more importantly he has style that is unmatched.

Whooooo hoooo!

Mrs. Michelle Obama is the second ever first lady to grace the cover of Vogue.

Naomi Campbell Triumphs!

As the saying goes, "when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade," which is just what Naomi Campbell did when she was ordered to do community service at a sanitation facility after allegedly assaulting her maid. Now while I do not condone violence I definitely stand for one holding one's head high in times of adversity. Ms. Campbell showed us how to work community service with style and grace. To some it up nicely, the bitch couldn't have asked for better press.

Model of the Moment: Sessilee Lopez

I love this girl's look you may or may not notice her as one the famous Vogue Italia girls for it's all-black issue last year, well her name is Sessilee Lopez and she's a Dominican girl turning heads in the fashion world. With that bone structure and those cheekbones how can she not?!

I hate doing this, but...

If your looking for the latest/hottest/whatever the celebs are wearing, you won't find it here. The thing I love about style is style not necessarily fashion and definately not trends, however every once in a while I get into the habit of reading blog after blog until my eyes burn and there were two red-carpets outfits that caught my attention. Loves Jennifer Hudson's RM by Roland Mouret dress and the Loubou's on Latoya Luckett.

-Ugly Betty.

I am just LOVING this pic of what's his name again, Kanye Louis Martin the King Jr. whatever it is, him and his boys look hot taking over Paris. Looks like Arnault Bernard is using Kanye West as he did Marc Jacobs in his Perry Ellis days to cause a Louis Vuitton publicity frenzy.

helllooooooo!

Is anyone as excited about the Hello Kitty line at MAC as I am?!

Fashion Babylon by Imogen Edwards-Jones and "Anonymous"

This book is another shocker. It's a fictional account of a designer's life based on true events/people. It's been added to my list of favourites and if you're a style freak it just might be on yours.

Style defined: What does cut on the bias mean?

To cut a garment "on the bias" means to cut diagonally across the grain or "cross-grain" of a piece of material instead of along or against it. A bias cut give a piece of clothing more fluidity and stretch and looks amazing along the curves of a body. However, a bias cut is not an easy one as fabric tends to gather and lose shape while being sewn if the garment is not handled properly. A designer famed for her exquisite pieces cut on the bias is Madeleine Vionnet who introduced it to the world in the 1920's. I took this little pic from Wikipedia for better understanding of the cut and there are some pieces by Madame Vionnet herself below:

I <3 Clueless!

I know I've been a really bad fashionista. I haven't blogged in what seems like forever! But I'm back on track and lately I've been reminiscing about the movie Clueless. This is a classic and I'm not just writing about it style-wise. When Cher says, "this time I'm gonna make-over myself," my evil, little heart just melts. Indulge in the world rich and poor alike aspired to way before there was ever a Gossip Girl.
